Volunteer OpportunitiesOur facility is excited to implement a new volunteer program! To learn more about our team-based system, keep reading below:
Animal Care (A-Team)
If you are interested in learning more about animal husbandry and what it takes to rehabilitate wildlife, then this is the position for you! Our Animal Care Team helps with all daily tasks associated with our patients. This includes enclosure cleanings, kitchen upkeep, enrichment projects, and of course, animal feedings. Volunteers who are involved with feeding animals will undergo specific training for whatever species they are interacting with. It is a great opportunity to have a direct impact on the animals that are coming into our facility.
Requirements: All A-Team members must schedule at least two 2-hour shifts a week from the end of May to Mid-October. This can be accomplished by scheduling a 4-hour shift one day or by scheduling two separate shifts across two different days. All A-Team Volunteers are also required to attend an orientation/group interview between May 4th and 9th (more details available in our Volunteer Sign-up Sheet linked below). This helps to prevent any retention in tasks, duties, and stalls our volunteers due to inactivity.
Transport (T-Team)
We need your help transporting injured and orphaned wildlife. Whether it is picking up an injured animal that needs our care at our facility or transporting a large raptor to Pullman, WA for testing, there are so many ways that your vehicle can help wildlife. We are looking for a network of volunteers who are willing to use their vehicles for these purposes. Our t-Team members are not expected to capture wildlife, but rather to transport wildlife that has already been capture in a crate or similar mechanism.
Requirements: There are no minimum number of days per week that are required to be worked by any T-Team members. We will require your address (kept confidential of course!), a radius of how far you would be willing to drive to transport wildlife, your vehicle make and model, and days throughout the week that you will likely be available.
Special Projects (P-Team)
Do you have general maintenance skills, enjoy working with your hands, or simply want to help out with any large projects we have? Then we could use your help! From spring to fall, our facility is working on all sorts of special projects. This can include enclosure and facility maintenance, building construction, brush removal, painting buildings, and so much more. For these types of projects, a job will be posted and all members of the P-Team will be notified in advance. We may request specific types of skills, along with details about the project and any other helpful information.
Requirements: There are no minimum number of days per week that are required to be worked by any P-Team members. Depending on the job, we may require that volunteers wear specific types of clothing or equipment for your safety (i.e., gloves, jeans, closed-toed shoes). All of these requests will be specified in the job postings.
